Vintage diners most often were patterned after railroad dining cars. Made of wood, they were set on a concrete foundation. Some had basements below the tiled floors. During the 40's and 50's, these diners were usually "updated" with stainless steel interiors, and porcelain panels outside for protection, giving them that famous 50's look.
