The subversive and radical culture of extreme sports forms the backdrop for an exhibition of paintings by Gomez Bueno entitled Board Graphics. In the culture of testosterone fueled risk-takers, the design and graphics of their extravagant tools of the trade yield clues to the way culture, recreation, and yes, even art, interact in an arena outside the gallery walls. While art, especially "high art," is meant to ennoble those who come in contact with it, it's Gomez Bueno's rush that gives us a taste of a more human engagement with ordinary — or, as is the case of Ortiz' installation — extraordinary life.
